Dear JoAnn,
I just want to say “Thanks” to you, the staff and whomever helped to put together the wonderful art exhibit, it was the best.
I was very impressed with the amazing talent of so many people that live here.
I can’t even draw a crooked line, but I can appreciate and enjoy the work of others.
Thanks also JoAnn for all you do to bring us so many programs for our pleasure.

The Towers Resident Art Show

The Towers Resident Art Show opened with a bang on Thursday, June 30th.
Beginning with a lovely reception featuring mango champagne punch and a variety of delicious hors d’ oeuvres, the Towers residents were treated to the works of twenty-one of their peers.
Exhibitors included:

• Inga Behr-collage and underwater photography
• Betty Bent-oil painting
• Ray Blik-collage, oil painting and pottery
• Merv Cooper-stone intarsia
• John Crouch-oil painting
• Fred Emmerich-stone intarsia and bonsai
• George Gardner-cartooning, pastel and sketch work
• Peter Hall-oil painting
• Herb & Marilyn Harris-clay sculpture
• Mollie Hayes-needlepoint and knitting
• Rita Levant-oil painting
• Lillian Lever-oil painting, sculpture and mobile
• Sally Levy-watercolor and acrylic painting
• Margaret Lien-watercolor and pastel
• Pat Matheny-watercolor
• Bob Rocl-oil painting
• Leanore Saks-oil painting
• Ruth Simons-collage
• Marilyn Whitmyer-hand quilting

With over one hundred pieces on display, each artist was on hand to answer questions from the crowd, and what a crowd! Those in attendance were overwhelmed at not only the quantity of work, but the quality as well. Some were surprised to find so much talent in one location, others requesting a second showing. We are hoping to display additional pieces at our upcoming September Open House.

Why I Moved toThe Towers

Although there are many reasons why I moved to the Towers; the most compelling was my personal safety. When my husband died, I didn’t want to be alone. I wanted to always feel safe.

I enjoy having people around me and the opportunity to make new friends. Also when I live in the Towers, I don’t have to cook or clean!

There are exercise classes and all kinds of regularly scheduled entertainment. There are movies three times a week and I don’t have to drive or buy a ticket!

I am never alone during the holidays since I have a whole new family. My new next door neighbor has become my best friend!

The staff is very friendly, considerate and attentive to my needs. The entertainment is fantastic. I love living at the Towers!

An Active Retirement Lifestyle Is Key

It never ceases to amaze me how many different events take place every month here at the Towers.

March is always busy with everything from our annual St. Patrick’s Party to a very interesting presentation on Laos on Thursday, March 25 at 2 PM.

Also the most popular game console in the world has arrived at the Towers. The Nintendo Wii has taken the country by storm and virtual games have millions exercising, playing baseball and bowling.

And it's virtual bowling which has over 40 Towers residents anxious to start playing every Tuesday afternoon, beginning this month. If you have an interest in virtual bowling, remember you will be having fun AND get an excellent workout. It doesn’t get any better than that.

An active lifestyle was one of the original key components of the Towers mission and keeping up with the latest trends continues as an important part of that mission.

The Towers Staff Is Amazing

We often hear about the instances where seniors are not treated so well. Those stories are depressing but remind us again about how fortunate we are at the Towers. We are blessed with an efficient, professional and responsive staff but most importantly, we know they care.

I had occasion to speak the other day with John Fox, the foreman of the Towers Maintenance Department. John is a wonderful man who leads his team by example, always showing respect and kindness to Towers' residents. He was recounting how he was assisting a new resident, recently widowed, who was more or less dropped off at the Towers to begin the next chapter of her life. She was crying, confused and depressed when John arrived at her suite.

Nothing surprising here, but John sat down with her and they began to chat. Soon she and John were starting to put up family pictures and mementos, and gradually her mood improved. John stayed until the resident said she was beginning to feel right at home. John outlined all the activities available at the Towers and then moved on.

John would tell you that he got as much from this encounter as did the resident but the fact is everyone at the Towers benefited from this small example of staff kindness.
